Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential nursing care to patients within a healthcare facility, under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Nursing Supervisor. The CNA assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment while ensuring the comfort and well-being of patients. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
2. Take and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate.
3. Observe and report any changes in patients' physical or mental conditions to the RN or Nursing Supervisor.
4. Assist in maintaining accurate patient records by documenting vital signs, intake and output measurements, and other relevant information.
5. Provide assistance to patients during mealtimes, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
6. Support patients' emotional and psychological needs by actively listening, providing companionship, and offering empathy.
7. Continuously monitor patients' safety, promptly reporting any potential hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
8. Assist in transferring and positioning patients using proper body mechanics and appropriate equipment.
9. Perform basic nursing procedures such as wound care, application of dressings, and collection of specimens.
10. Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean and sanitized environment in patient rooms and common areas.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from an accredited program.
2. High school diploma or equivalent.
3. Current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
5. Excellent observational skills to identify changes in patients' conditions and report them promptly.
6. Ability to work compassionately and respectfully with patients from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
7. Proficiency in following directions and maintaining a high level of accuracy in completing tasks.
8. Physical stamina and dexterity to lift, move, and position patients, as well as stand or walk for extended periods.
9. Knowledge of infection control practices and the ability to adhere to strict protocols.
10. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and respecting privacy regulations.
